Community of Believers That Welcomes You
At United Methodist Church of Livonia, UMCL, we come from all walks of life, many occupations, are many ages, and are joined together in receiving God’s grace and forgiveness through Christ’s sacrifice. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we strive to unselfishly love and recognize the good in each other. We endeavor to follow Christ by living a life of love and sharing our faith with others.
Our mission – Making Disciples and Changing the World.
What We Believe
United Methodist Church of Livonia is a fellowship of believers that celebrates our Wesleyan Heritage.
Wesley and the early Methodists were particularly concerned about inviting people to experience God’s grace and to grow in their knowledge and love of God through disciplined Christian living. They placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.
The distinctive shape of our theological heritage can be seen not only in this emphasis on Christian living, but also in Wesley’s distinctive understanding of God’s saving grace. Although Wesley shared with many other Christians a belief in salvation by grace, he combined them in a powerful way to create distinctive emphases for living the full Christian life. The following are fundamental to our beliefs:
We believe full devotion to Jesus is essential for every person who claims to be a Christ Follower.
2 Corinthians 8:7, Philippians 2: 1-6, Ephesians 4: 25-26, Hebrews 12: 1, Matthew 28: 19-20
We believe that life change and discipleship are essential for every Christ Follower and happen as a result of:
- Faithful participation in weekly worship
- Participation in a small group
- Practicing a lifestyle of generosity and tithing
- Using our gifts to serve as the hands and feet of God
Luke 6: 12-16, Acts 2: 44-47
We believe that church is a community with each believer sharing their spiritual gifts – some as leaders and some as servants.
1 Corinthians 12, Romans 12, Ephesians 4, Psalms 133: 1
We believe that all people matter to God and the best way to show this is to live this.
Luke 5: 30, Luke 15, Matthew 18: 14, 22: 36-40, 28: 19-20
We believe that stewardship honors God.
Matthew 25: 31-46, Matthew 6:24, Proverbs 3: 9, Malachi 3: 8-10
We believe that worship is our gift to God and is to be culturally relevant.

A United Methodist Church
UMCL is a congregation of the United Methodist Church, very proud of our Wesleyan heritage, and the global work of the United Methodist Church through “Nothing But Nets,” UMCOR, and other Methodist Ministries.
The United Methodist Church is trying to eradicate malaria through its “Nothing But Nets” program. Malaria is the leading killer of children in Africa. This global, grassroots campaign saves lives by preventing malaria by providing specially treated netting.
UMCOR, United Methodist Committee on Relief brings God’s hope, healing and renewal to people whose lives have been disrupted by war, conflict or natural disaster. Humanitarian relief and disaster response is provided by UMCOR to people in more than 80 countries, including the United States, and is most often the first on the scene.
