It Just Seems Like We Can’t Get It Right
June 2020
Prelude to conversation…
From the look of things the definition of justice must be long and difficult.
It just seems like we can’t get it right. It just seems like it is so big an obstacle that we don’t want to invest the time and energy it will take to secure justice for all.
Justice for all… that is a familiar line…isn’t it? Oh yes… the Pledge of Allegiance ends like this…. …one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.
Those who founded our country were way ahead of us… when encouraging us to pledge our allegiance to a nation where all would mean ALL.
BUT…
When stereotypes get in the way of our vision…there is no justice.
When prejudice allows us to prevent some from being part of the ALL…there is no justice.
When ….Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. …there is no justice.
When we remain silent…and take no action to assist others in their quest for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…there is no justice.
When there is hate…there is no justice.
In matters of truth and justice, there is no difference between large and small problems, for issues concerning the treatment of people are all the same.
Justice … treating people and respecting people like we would like to be treated and respected.
And what does the Lord require?
do justice
love kindness
walk humbly with God Micah 6:8
May it be so!
