Easter Is Not Just The Past, It’s About The Future
The Early Church
In the early church, the followers of Jesus understood themselves as the evidence of the resurrection. Luke said it this way, “The life of Jesus you all know, it’s a matter of public record. The death of Jesus is also a matter of public record. The resurrection of Jesus? Of that we are witnesses.”
What About Today?
So, in these days of stay at home orders, social distancing, how can you be the proof of the resurrection? Remember, “Easter is not just about the past, it’s about the future. Your best days are ahead of you. The proof of the resurrection is in your hands and in your life.”
The great preacher Peter J. Gomes, writes, “…the resurrection is a continuing event which involves everyone who dares be involved in it. Easter is not just about Jesus, it’s about you. Jesus has already claimed his new life. What about you? Easter is not just about the past, it’s about the future. Your best days are ahead of you. The proof of the resurrection is in your hands and in your life.”
How will you show your neighbors and your community that Christ is risen? How will you be the proof of the resurrection in the midst of the chaos and anxiety of today?
Ways To Be Proof of the Resurrection Today
There are many things you can do.
- Making face masks. There are many online tutorials and patterns. Locally, Sew Creative, Fairport, NY is collecting masks for distribution.
- Assembled Dress a Girl kits. Contact UMCL for more information.
- Continue to call each other, and go beyond your circle of friends.
- Send a card or handwritten note.
- Let me know if there are persons or needs that need attention.
I continue to thank God for your faithfulness and care for each other. You are a living, breathing example of what it means to be the body of Christ. I am so encouraged by how we are dealing with this new reality.
Peace,
Pastor Hoyt
